Religious Education

At Holy Cross, Religious Education is an exceptionally important ministry and affords a wide variety of opportunities for almost every parishioner to serve and to learn.

Class schedules will be published as soon as the new fall schedule has been prepared and approved.

Sue Jones is our Director of Religious Education and Faith Formation.  She can be reached at 529-0283 or sjones@holycross-moorpark.org

Sunday Morning Preschool offers Bible stories, crafts, songs, and snacks for three and four year olds.  Sessions are held during the nine o’clock Mass from late September until mid May.

Elementary Religious Education classes are held for kindergarten thru fifth grade.  Classes are offered Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 4:15 to 5:30.  Preparation for First Communion can begin in the first grade and take a minimum of to years.  Children are introduced to scripture, liturgy, sacraments, the commandments, and the fundamentals of our faith during the course of the elementary program.  Please contact Erica Jones at 529-0283 if you have any questions or need assistance.

Junior High Ministry includes sessions for those in middle school.  They meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. approximately every other week.  The Junior High curriculum expands the topics covered in the elementary grades and gives the participants a solid foundation for Confirmation preparation that comes in high school.  For more information on this Ministry we invite you to contact Julie Cleary at 529-0283.

The Confirmation Process is a minimum of two years.  Teens may begin this process as early as ninth grade.  Phase One of the process consists of a once a month Spirit Night held on Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and participation once a month in a Youth Ministry activity.  Phase One ends with an interview and evaluation process which determines the teen’s readiness to begin the Immediate Preparation Phase.  Immediate Preparation for Confirmation takes place on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Fall activities include parent and sponsor sessions along with sessions for the candidates.  A weekend retreat takes place usually in February, and for those who have successfully completed the process, the sacrament of Confirmation is conferred in May. Linda Demyan at 529-0283 is your point of contact for more information on this important step in your religious journey.

Adult Formation classes are held on Sunday mornings.  These sessions include a track for RCIA as well as for those adults seeking to receive their First Communion and/or the sacrament of Confirmation.  The sessions begin in September and go through the end of January except for the RCIA track which extends until the Easter Vigil.  These sessions are also open to anyone who is simply seeking a greater adult knowledge of his/her faith.

Registration for Religious Education is held from mid May to the first of September at scheduled times.  You may consult the Sunday bulletin or call the Religious Education office for those times.

“Catholic education is an expression of the mission entrusted by Jesus to the Church He founded.  Through education the Church seeks to prepare its members to proclaim the Good News and to translated this proclamation into action.” To Teach as Jesus Did, 1972, #7
