Holy Cross - Moorpark, CA    Council 9969

Interested in joining the Knights of Columbus?

If you have any questions about who we are and what we are all about, please read on:

Who are the Knights of Columbus?  We are a Catholic Family Fraternal Service Organization consisting of Catholic men, over the age of 18, who are committed to the exemplification of charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism and the defense of the priesthood.

The Knights are built on family, faith and friendship.  With over 1.8 million members in many different countries, we are the largest lay organization in the Catholic Church and are referred to as it’s Strong Right Arm.  In 2007 alone, the Knights donated well over $145 million and have volunteered almost 69 million hours over the past 10 years, which in monetary terms, is worth nearly $1.28 billion.  Our AAA+ insurance program surpassed $62 billion this year.

Parish Assistance?  We assist Holy Cross Parish with such duties as parking control on many of the Holy Days or other special events when attendance is expected to be high and parking tight.  We also supply volunteer manpower for other parish activities at the request of our Pastor.  We host frequent Coffee & Donut Socials following the Sunday masses.  The Knights and their wives operate the Religious Gift Shop for our parish.  We volunteer for many other duties about the parish and at the Catholic Charities facility near downtown Moorpark.

Our Spiritual Side:  Quarterly, we hold a “Family Unity Mass” for our Knights and their families, which is usually held at a 9:00 AM Sunday Mass.  Knights will frequently serve as Deacon of the Mass, Lectors, Sacristans, Eucharistic Ministers and Ushers at these Masses.  Also on the dates of the Unity Mass we will conduct a membership drive at the parish.

Major Fund-raisers?  Our biggest is our Annual Golf Tournament.  Others would be our Lenten Fish Frys and our periodic Pancake Breakfasts.  We hold a Thanksgiving Food Drive at many of the Moorpark Supermarkets to benefit the Food Pantry, a quarterly parish Blood Drive and an Annual Tootsie Roll drive for ARC - the Mentally Challenged Association of Ventura County.

Family Events?  In addition to the Unity Mass each quarter, our family focus includes a Christmas Party for the whole Parish on the first Sunday in December, a summer family picnic BBQ near the end of June, the New Officer Induction Ceremony in July and many other occasions that deserve special recognition.

Meetings?  We gather for our business meetings on the second Thursday evening of each month at the old Chapel on the corner of Everett and Magnolia streets.  Meetings usually include a light snack/meal at 7:00 PM with a the meeting starting promptly at 7:30 PM.  Additional meetings to support special programs or projects are held as necessary either at the Parish or the old Chapel.

Commitment?  We believe and adhere to the following statement:  “We only expect and ask that our members participate in our charitable service events and other endeavors, when their family and job commitments allow them the opportunity to do so.”  Bottom line:  We truly value and welcome your support and participation as much as your personal calendar will permit.  We realize that business and personal situations can be demanding and fluid.  We ask only that you do what you can, when you can.

Interested?  If you want a sense of belonging, if you want to be able to help your church and your community and gain a warm sense of accomplishment for yourself and your family, then we invite you to seriously consider becoming a member of the Knights of Columbus by calling:

  1. - Grand Knight, Andy Willrodt                                               298-2999

Holy Cross Council # 9969:   Our Holy Cross Council was founded in 1989 here in Moorpark and we currently have almost 150 members.  These Catholic gentlemen are committed to our community and our parish.  Our main focus and aim is to help those who are less fortunate than we.  Our fund-raisers enable us to donate to such charities as Catholic Charities and the Moorpark Food Bank, ARC, Life Centers, and the Wheelchair Foundation.  We also fund a scholarship program in memory of our second Grand Knight, John Homze.

Knights, serving as Greeters and Ushers,  welcome parishioners to Sunday Mass in main Parish.

Social, Fundraising and hands-on support for local charities and service organizations are just a few of the many family and community activities of our Holy Cross Knights and their family members.

Our Lenten Fish Frys have rapidly become one of the most popular social and fundraising events in Moorpark.  For our Knights it’s “The place to be” on Friday evenings in Lent.

The Holy Cross Knights of Columbus Annual Golf Tournament, held in August at one of our local golf clubs, is our largest and most successful fundraiser of the year.  All monies raised are donated to local charities and service organizations(click here for latest photos)
